International Biodiversity Award 2020

The India Biodiversity Awards is a joint initiative by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, National Biodiversity Authority and the United Nations Development Programme. It is an innovative mechanism to identify and recognize the efforts of individuals, communities and institutions working towards biodiversity conservation, sustainable use of biological resources, access and benefit sharing and biodiversity governance.

The first India Biodiversity Awards were jointly announced by the MoEFCC and UNDP in 2012 at the high level segment of the Eleventh meeting of Conference of Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity. Following its success, the second, third and fourth India Biodiversity Awards were held in 2014, 2016 and 2018 respectively in partnership with the National Biodiversity Authority. Over 600 good cases of biodiversity conservation, sustainable use, access and benefit-sharing and biodiversity governance were documented through the award process. The awards were institutionalised by the National Biodiversity Authority in 2017. UNDP continues to serve as Knowledge Partner.

The fifth round of India Biodiversity Award was launched by the Hon'ble Vice President of India on May 22, 2019 on the occasion of International Day of Biological Diversity. The nomination forms have been uploaded on the website of the national Biodiversity Authority (http://nbaindia.org/).

3. Replicable Mechanism for Access and Benefit Sharing

4. Best Biodiversity Management Committees
